  a congressman was seated next to a little girl on the airplane when he turned to her and said, "let's talk.

  i've heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.".

  "OK," she said. "Those could be interesting topics. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?"
  
  The legislator, visibly surprised by the little girl's intelligence, thinks about it and says, "Hmmm, I have no idea."
  
  To which the little girl replied, as she started to re-open her book, "Do you really feel qualified to discuss global warming or universal health care when you don't know sh!t?!"

  The fundamental flaw with the WTBTS as "God's Organization"?

  there are countless issues that people have with the society and which together have led to many people realizing that it is not what it claims and pretends to be.

  these include things like the secret un affiliation, contradictory and hypocritical stances, (malawi vs mexico vs un/ngo), the ever changing blood policy and ever changing doctrine, failed predictions for armageddon etc, etc, etc.. but what is the consensus about what the fundamental flaw is?.

  what i mean is, many jw's hear about these various issues and manage to make endless excuses for them, even though this involves gross hypocrisy and excusing the society for things they would never excuse in other religions and which the society itself has ruthless condemned other religions for over almost 100 years.

  I don't think all of them think that the F&DS is God's infallible channel. At one point, as early Bible Studies or children, yes, but after years and starting to see things as they are, not so much.

  I think the fundamental flaw is not in the organization itself, but rather, in people's desire "to be right", to be "the only ones with the truth", to "feel special, be special" compared to others.

  This fundamental flaw not only makes the Jehovah's Witnesses religion work, but Mormons, Muslims, and many other faiths as well.

  That, coupled with a life vested in belief, makes changing difficult even when confronted with compelling contrary evidence. This leads to defending instead of changing.

  I'm late on this, but it is funny that in the same sentence that they quote the Scripture "do not go beyond", they use a synonym for "go beyond" when they then say "by extension" to self-expand coverage to the F&DS .

  (hey, when you read that acronym out loud, it's the "effin dee ess"!)

  if you discover, while getting to know a potential partner, that they have cheated on a previous partner........ don't touch them.

  run run run.. in my opinion a cheat remains a cheat.

  Any non-cheaters willing to step up?

  How do you expect a non-cheater to weigh in on whether or not a cheater is always a cheater... you have to walk in those shoes first, to know.

  I believe in very few absolutes. To paint all cheaters {insert any other label, too} with the same brush is a broad stroke of bias.

  i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.

  you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

  Ray Franz has had a stroke

  just setting the record straight.

  there is another thread that notes a claim on wiki that said that ray has died.. he had a stroke yesterday, and is in the hospital.

  he is still alive.

  A close friend brought this to my attention on FB. My heart goes out to Cynthia, and my gratitude to Ray for his courage to write the book CoC. It helped resolve the cognitive dissonance I was experiencing in my last days as a JW; he truly helped me be able to leave with a clear conscience and free my family from the untruth of what they call "the truth". I only wish I could have met the man, and thanked him in person. I'll be sending a card to Cynthia--I wish I'd had the address earlier, so I could have thanked Ray properly.
